Man Steals Car And Rolls It In Loganville Before Taking Off Into The Woods

Walton County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who stole a car just minutes before wrecking it in Loganville.

The is looking for a man who ran off after stealing a vehicle and wrecking it in Loganville Tuesday evening.

According to WCSO Chief Deputy Bruce Wright, it happened while a woman was inside a convenience store in the county, just north of Loganville.

“She went into the store to get some items and left her keys in the car,” Wright said. “She was at the counter paying when she noticed her car taking off.”

Wright said she called 911 and within a couple of minutes another call came in that a car had wrecked just a couple of miles away at the corner of Highway 81 and Bay Creek Church Road in .

“Witnesses said the driver crawled out and took off into the woods,” Wright said, adding the sheriff’s office determined it was the black VW Jetta that had been stolen from outside the convenience store a few minutes earlier. It had rolled and ended up in a ditch. Wright said the vehicle was extensively damaged.

The t also responded to the scene as it was inside the city limits. Maj. Greg Warnack said LPD stayed to assist sheriff’s deputies in trying to locate the driver, but efforts were unsuccessful.

Wright said the subject is described as a white male with short brown hair. He is about 5 foot 8 inches tall and looks to weigh about 175 pound.

“He walked with a limp and that was not as a result of the accident,’ Wright said. “Witnesses who saw him at the convenience store before the car was stolen reported that he had a limp and walked with a cane.”
