A man visiting Eastside Medical Center last weekend was cited for animal neglect after an officer found a dog locked in his 134-degree car.

According to the Snellville Police report, a security guard for the hospital flagged down the officer to report the unattended animal around 1:32 p.m. Friday, July 19.

A white pitbull was in the rear seat of a Lincoln LS, which had its windows down three inches. Despite the window space, the officer's laser temperature reader still measured 134 degrees Fahrenheit.

At that time, the driver of the car arrived and went up to the officer, who asked why he left the dog in the hot car without food or water. The man explained that the dog wasn't his, and he was simply looking after his friend's dog.

The officer gave him the citation and the offender was released.
