Loganville Residents Help with Blood Drive Scheduled for Burn Victim

A blood drive on Dec. 7 at Snellville City Hall is scheduled for Torrie Williamson, a single mother of two children.

According to long-time friend Jamie Dempsey, Williamson was roasting marshmallows with her children when the fire ran up a stream of accelerant, causing a gas can to explode as Williamson was holding it. 

Her son reportedly attempted to put the fire out and help his mother. 

Over half of her body was severely burned. She was life-flighted to Grady Hospital, where she is in a medically-induced coma and undergoing multiple surgeries. The first surgery involves removing all the dead skin, a process called "debriding." 

Williamson currently lives in Conyers, but was scheduled to close on the house of her dreams in Loganville soon. 

According to a Facebook post by her fiance, John Jordan, her face is free of burns and she seems to be healing well. Jordan, a firefighter with the Rockdale County Fire Department, was able to act quickly by putting out the fire, wrapping her in a wet blanket and inserting an IV. 

He and Williamson have known each other since Kindergarten.  

The blood drive at Snellville City Hall will take place from 1 - 6 p.m. It was already scheduled, but when councilmen Bobby Howard and Tom Witts heard about Williamson's plight, they quickly made sure to dedicate the event to her.

Let the Red Cross know that you are donating in her name. She will need 40-50 units before all the surgeries are completed. Her blood type is O+, but all donations made in her name will contribute to her fund.

There will also be a benefit concert held in her honor on Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at Five O'Clock Sports Bar and Grill in Covington.
