Loganville Police Called to Yet Another Wreck In Front of Kroger

LPD regularly are called to motor vehicle accidents at the traffic light in front of the Kroger parking lot.

Police in Loganville say it’s a regular occurrence – working a wreck in front of Kroger on Highway 78 – and Wednesday afternoon they were back out there working another.

According to Capt. Greg Warnack of the Loganville Police Department, a blue PT Cruiser turning into Kroger from the westbound lane of Highway 78 was hit by a Toyota Camry traveling in the third, eastbound lane of the highway.

“The driver of the PT cruiser was considered the at fault driver and cited,” Warnack said, adding although both drivers received injuries and were transported to the hospital, the injuries were not considered serious. “The PT Cruiser flipped over and landed upright again.”

Warnack said the traffic light leading into the Kroger parking lot in front of the Loganville Crossing shopping center is one of the busiest for the police department. He said about 90 percent of the accident that happen at that location follow the same scenario - a vehicle turning into the parking lot from the westbound turning lane misjudges the eastbound traffic and turns in front of vehicles traveling east. There is a fourth lane, which is a turning lane, that appears to cause the confusion.

“I don’t know why, because the (Georgia Department of Transportation) put a traffic light and the lanes there,” Warnack said.

Loganville Police Chief Mike McHugh asked that people exercise caution to avoid such wrecks.

“Most of the accidents are caused by two factors – excessive speed and failing to obey a traffic control device,” McHugh said
