Loganville Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide

Jonathan Blanton Bagwell, 28, of Loganville, has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving following a wreck last week that killed a Sugar Hill man.

According to Gwinnett County jail records, Jonathan Blanton Bagwell, 28, of Loganville, was arrested Tuesday and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving. He was released at 7 p.m. Wednesday on $16,900 bond.

in Lawrenceville. A Sugar Hill man died in the accident.

Investigators reported that a white 1998 Chevrolet, driven by Kenneth Hayden, 22, of Sugar Hill, was stopped on Sugarloaf Parkway waiting to turn left onto Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd. A black 1997 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Bagwell, was traveling north on Sugarloaf Parkway and intended to continue north.Β Hayden turned into Bagwell's path as the light turned from green to yellow, causing Bagwell's vehicle to hit the right side of Hayden's vehicle. Hayden died at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained. Bagwell was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

At the time officials said alcohol did not appear to be a contributing factor but there were questions with regard to speed and right of way. They called for any witnesses to the accident to come forward but it is unclear at this time what prompted the arrest.
