Loganville Man at 'Wrong Place at Wrong Time' Injured in Monroe Wreck

A man from Loganville was at a stop sign on Highway 78 at Troy Smith Road in Monroe on Monday morning when he was hit by both cars trying to avoid a collision.

Gilbert Reed of Loganville was slowing down to stop at the intersection of Troy Smith at Highway 78 in Monroe on Monday when he was tagged teamed by two cars trying to avoid hitting each other. The cars were successful in avoiding each other, but both hit Reed's vehicle. The collision resulted in Reed having to be extricated from his vehicle and transported to Athens Regional Medical Hospital.

"Vehicle No. 1 was attempting to cross State Route 10 (Highway 78) from Roe Road when vehicle No. 2 was traveling west on SR 10. They saw each other at the same time and veer away to avoid hitting each other," said Cpl. RW Thacker from Georgia State Patrol. "They both hit Vehicle No. 3 that was slowing to stop at Troy Smith Road."

Thacker said Reed had to be extricated from his vehicle after his jeep was hit in the front by Vehicle No. 1 and on the driver's side rear fender by Vehicle No. 2 The driver of vehicle No. 1, Douglass Sartin of Lawrenceville, was determined to be the at fault driver and was cited for failing to yield. He and the driver of Vehicle No. 2 were both taken to Clearview Regional Medical Center.

Thacker said Reed has since been discharged from Athens Regional.
