ICE Agents Release Hold on Grayson Man Involved in Fatal Car Wreck

The driver in a was released on bond from the Gwinnett County Detention Center on Monday after immigration officials released their hold on him, according to Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department. 

, was charged with driving under the influence following an accident in Grayson on Sunday night. , died in the accident when she attempted to make a left turn Graystone Parkway onto Lakeview Road at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday. Sailors was the driver of a 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante that was struck by a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Paasewe westbound on Lakeview Road.

Neither Sailors nor her passenger, 16-year-old Lacey Gowens, was reportedly wearing a seat belt. Sailors died at the scene, and Gowens was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. Paasewe, 23, was later charged with driving under the influence and held for immigration. He was, however, released on bond Monday afternoon. Lt. Sean Smith, spokesman with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department, said the original hold was not in error and that it was the decision of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to release Paasewe.

"It was not a mistake," Smith said. "After the initial ICE hold he was later released by ICE. Based on his 'green card' status and the charge of DUI up to this point. The decision to release him was ICE’s decision after an investigation. There is no longer any hold on him."

It does not appear that Paasewe has been cited as the at-fault driver in the fatal car wreck at this time.
