Home Invasion Shooting Prompts Neighborhood Watch in Loganville

Following the Jan. 4 home invasion in the Henderson Ridge Subdivision that resulted in a mother shooting the intruder, the Sharon Church community is coming together to organize a neighborhood watch.

In the light of recent crime in the area, the Sharon Church community is banding together to address the issue.

after he broke into her Henderson Ridge home. He survived the shooting and is now being held in Walton County Jail without bond.

The Henderson Ridge subdivision is off of Sharon Church Road. Several of the homeowners in the greater Sharon Church Road subdivision plan on meeting this week to discuss establishing a neighborhood watch program.

"As a result of this, we feel we should come together as a community and create a larger neighborhood watch program so we can communicate within our own area what may be happening," Loganville resident Anita Brown wrote in a newsletter to the neighborhood. "Our area will include Sharon Church from Miller Bottom to Sharon Church at Center Hill Church."

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 at Sharon Elementary School. Capt. Darren Vinson of the Walton County Sheriff's Office also will be in attendance.

Brown asked that people in the neighborhood watch area submit any questions to her at anitabrown2002@yahoo.com prior to Thursday's meeting so the questions can be addressed as a group.

This was not the only recent home invasion in Loganville. The family of four was displaced as a result and lost their family pets in the fire. That case is still under investigation.

The home invasion in the Henderson Ridge subdivision at the beginning of the year also racheted up a rush of gun purchases and firearms training in the local area.

Home invasions are increasing rapidly. These thugs know that there is less of a chance getting caught burglarizing a home then robbing businesses. So stay safe, be vigilant, install deadbolts and keep alarm activated. If you don't have an alarm system try the United States Security Company Directory USSCD for great affordable home security options.
