A 58-year-old Monroe man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after a pedestrian was struck by his vehicle while standing on the sidewalk.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol responded to a hit and run accident in Walnut Grove Monday afternoon involving a pedestrian. According to TFC John Taylor with the GSP, the victim was standing on the sidewalk at the intersection of highways 138 and 81 on Monday afternoon when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Melton Bradley, 58, of Monroe.

Taylor said Bradley was headed eastbound on Highway 138 and was attempting to turn onto Highway 81 northbound when he jumped the curb. The vehicle struck the victim, who was transported to Clearview Regional Medical Center for treatment before being released. Bradley left the scene, but was arrested at his home. Taylor said several witnesses were at the scene and were able to give details of the vehicle, which led them to subject.

Bradley was picked up at his home and taken to Walton County Jail. He is charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, failure to maintain lane, improper left turn and failure to report an accident with injury.
