UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Alleged Arson

UPDATE: Snellville Patch is reporting an arrest in this case. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the fire.

A fire at a Snellville church on Feb. 23 has been identified as arson and Gwinnett County arson investigators are asking the public if they can help identify a person of interest in the fire.

The overnight arson fire occurred at the Zoar United Methodist Church in Snellville. The man identified as the person of interest is described as a white male, approximately 18-26 years of age and was last seen wearing torn blue jeans, a dark hooded jacket, and a striped shirt. Surveilance pictures of the suspect from a local business captured prior to the fire were included with the press release.

Investigators are asking that anyone who thinks they may know the person in the photo, or who has information that may be helpful to the case, contact authorities by calling 911 or the Gwinnett County Fire Arson and Explosives Section at 678-518-4890.
 
Officials are reminding the public that arson is a serious felony crime punishable by up to 20 years behind bars.  According to investigators, "the fire was deliberately set to with the intent to cause significant damage to the structure." A motive is not yet know.
