GWA Football Player Collapses During Practice, Airlifted to Egleston

The student, reportedly a middle school student, was airlifted to Egleston Children's Hospital Monday after collapsing during practice after school on Monday.

According to Lt. Bill Owens, public information officer for the City of Monroe Fire Department, crews responded to a medical call at 1 Bulldog Drive on Monday Sept. 17, 2012 at about 3:51 pm. The address is the campus for George Walton Academy.

"Fire and Medical crews were directed to the football fieldΒ  where the patient, who was a student, was unconscious and unresponsive," Owens said. "According to reports by George Walton Facility, the student was at football practice when he told one of the coaches he wasn't feeling well. The patient then lost consciousness."

Owens said that due to the nature of the incident, the patient was life flighted to Elgeston Hospital in Atlanta. No details are available on his current condition.
