GSP Trooper Shoots and Kills Man In Newton County Following A Foot Chase

Patch is looking into whether this incident has any connection to a manhunt in Loganville last week.

UPDATE: GSP spokesman Gordy Wright confirmed the man shot and killed this afternoon was fugitive Timmy Morris of Oxford.

A Georgia State Patrol trooper reportedly shot and killed a man following a foot chase Wednesday afternoon and Patch is looking into the possibility this incident is connected to a manhunt last week in Loganville.

According to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the man threatened to kill the deputy during a traffic stop for speeding around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle didn’t stop, instead pulling into a drive off Gum Creek Trial in Newton County where the driver attempted to run into the woods. According to the AJC report, When the suspect was cornered he said he had a gun and threatened to shoot the trooper. The trooper fired two shots, allegedly when the suspect made a sudden move. After being transported to the Newton Medical Center, the suspect is reported to have died at about 4:30 p.m.

The suspect is reported to be in his middle 30s and have an extensive criminal history as well as several active warrants in Newton, Morgan and Walton Counties.

Last week Loganville and Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted the U.S. Federal Marshal Services in a manhunt in Loganville for Timothy Morris, 34, who was wanted on outstanding probation warrants in Newton and Walton County and on theft and burglary charges in Morgan County. Morris managed to evade authorities.
