Grayson Man Charged with Hit and Run After Claiming to be the Victim
He also was charged with making a false statement after allegedly reporting the damage to his car was the result of a hit and run and that he as the victim not the perpetrator. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.
Gwinnett County Police responded to a hit and run traffic accident at the intersection of Scenic Highway and Webb Ginn Road just before 11 a.m. on Nov. 17. According to the police report, the victim reported that the perpetrator had fled. A witness followed the car for a short way and managed to get the tag number and call it in to 911 operators. She then returned to render aid.
About 30 minutes later, the officer was dispatched to another reported hit and run, this time at the Walgreens in Grayson. In that case, Robert David Pergola, of 1374 Swallows Walk in Grayson, told police that he had been shopping in Walgreens and walked out the store to find damage to the front end of his car. According to the police report, he claimed it must have been a hit and run.
Unfortunately for Pergola, his tag matched the one in the earlier hit and run that had been called in by the witness. Pergola then admitted to being involved in the earlier hit and run, which was how his car had sustained the damage. He was arrested and charged with hit and run and making a false statement of a crime.

Pergola was released the same day on a $4,250 security bond.
