Grayson Boy Injured in Car Wreck in Gwinnett
His father died on scene in the five-vehicle crash Monday.
Gwinnett County Police have identified the victims in the five-vehicle crash Monday (Dec. 16) on Ronald Reagan Parkway near Snellville and Lawrenceville.
Robert Sexton, 31, of Norcross, had been driving a white pickup truck, and his 5-year-old son, Shane, of Grayson, was in the car as a passenger, according to Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.
Sexton died on the scene, while his son was airlifted to Scottish Rite. Smith couldn't detail the extent of the boy's injuries, but said he'll "likely pull through."
A third person, who had been driving a Ford Expedition in the opposite lane, also sustained significant injuries, Smith continued. The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital and is expected to live.
According to Smith, the wreck started when the pickup and a white Ford Taurus traveling eastbound on Ronald Reagan near Five Forks Trickum Road passed over a patch of ice and hit each other.
Both vehicles then lost control and traveled through the median into the oncoming lanes, hitting three other vehicles. The Expedition hit the driver's side of the pickup truck with the father and son inside.
"The driver's side is collapsed all the way over through the passenger's side," Smith said.
Three vehicles were seriously damaged while two of them received minor injury.
