GCPD Investigating Overnight Fatality Possibly Involving Students

A car wreck near the intersection of Steve Reynolds Blvd. near Beaver Ruin Road at 12:25 a.m. Sunday morning resulted in one fatality. Police are investigating and have not confirmed whether students were involved.

According to a press release from Gwinnett County Police Department, officers from GCPD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries near the intersection of Steve Reynolds Blvd. near Beaver Ruin Road at about 12:25 a.m. Sunday. One of the occupants did not survive their injuries and died at the scene. Two receive injuries that were not life threatening injuries. A second occupant was transported and is listed in critical condition at this time.

A report from the scene indicates a vehicle that was traveling north on Steve Reynolds Blvd. crossed the center line of the roadway, and was struck by a vehicle that was traveling south on Steve Reynolds Blvd. Two of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Police report that alchol dies not appear to be a contributing factor, but speed might have contributed.

"Warrants have been obtained for the at fault driver including vehicular homicide in the first degree, failure to maintain lane, three counts of serious injury by vehicle and reckless driving," police reported in the press release. "Details surrounding the events preceding the accident, as well as their status as students’ were not immediately known. The identities and ages of the victims are not being released at this time."

However, the Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting that the fatality was Meadowcreek High School student Johlonda Lindsey. The other two injured were also Meadowcreek High School students.
