Thomas Carlton, 54, former manager of Monroe Golf & Country Club died Friday night as a result of a gunshot wound. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
According to the , police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the Bishop neighborhood where Carlton lived and then received a 911 call from Carlton’s wife. He was found in the driveway, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
According to Carlton’s obituary on Online Athens, Carlton was employed at the Monroe Country Club for more than 23 years as a manager and golf professional. He was also a former golfer, winning back-to-back championships in the Augusta City Amateur Tournament in 1979-1980 as well as several others throughout the U.S.
There will be a memorial service for Carlton at 3 p.m. at the chapel of , 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road in Bogart. Carlton leaves behind his wife, Tina D. Carlton, three children, his mother and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Potter's House or the Oconee County Food Bank.
