Former Loganville Funeral Director's License Suspended After He Dismembers Body

He is also accused of threatening to kill a colleague and he reportedly attempted suicide inside his Loganville Funeral Home.

Ellenberg Funeral Services on Highway 81 in Loganville closed down almost as quickly as it opened. It is now being reported that the owner, William B. Ellenger III, has had his licenses suspended following a series of bizarre incidents.

According to CBS Atlanta, Ellenberg, who also is the owner of Metro Embalming and Crematory in Conyers, had his license suspended after it was reported that he dismembered an 800-pound body in the Conyers location in order to fit it into the crematory. Conyers police investigated and reported it is not a crime to do so. Permission needs to be sought from the family first, though, and it is reported that Ellenberg did not do so.

Ellenberg appeared on a large billboard on Highway 78 in Loganville earlier in the year advertising the opening of Ellenberg Funeral Services in Loganville. However, it wasn’t open long before it was found to no longer be in operation. CBS Atlanta reports that Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a suicide attempt by Ellenberg on Aug. 15 when he allegedly shot himself in the leg. He also is reported to have threatened the life of a former business partner.

Ellenberg's license was suspended on Sept. 20, but he can appeal the ruling. Ellenberg told CBS Atlanta that his troubles are the result of a woman scorned - the former business partner with whom he reportedly had a relationship at one time.

Well duh!.....if he's been dismembered, how's he gonna due his job?
Tim October 2, 2012 at 11:18 am
do
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) October 2, 2012 at 12:16 pm
Point taken Tim, changed. :)
Linda Duncan Brown October 2, 2012 at 01:21 pm
Why would the family of the deceased even need to know that their loved one had been dismembered? Wasn't the body about to be destroyed anyway?
Susan October 2, 2012 at 03:51 pm
Sad. Sounds like depression. He needs a happier, more alive atmosphere.
Connie Burel October 2, 2012 at 04:23 pm
Didn't think this new funeral home in Loganville would be able to compete with the other established funeral homes but sure didn't know it's failure would be due to the owner's personal issues.
SUNKEN SUB October 2, 2012 at 08:32 pm
Talking about some missing facts in the LMS story,
Burning the evidence is a SURE FIRE way to cover something up. What does a 4X Large crematory go for ? And we are feeding the kids TOO much for lunch. Hummmmmmmmmmmm ?
bullsballs October 8, 2012 at 07:05 pm
He can't take the stiff competition.
But it is a dying industry... He just made a grave mistake...
Grant October 8, 2012 at 07:17 pm
So... the family is upset that the guy was cut into pieces ....before he was burned to ashes?
Do dismembered ashes look different? FWIW between this article and Paul Broun's moronic mumblings Loganville has made Fark.com (news aggregator) twice in as many days .A dubious honor to be sure .
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) October 8, 2012 at 07:20 pm
I figured you must have read it on Fark Grant. :)
Otis The Town Drunk October 8, 2012 at 07:38 pm
Connie, are you suggesting that there aren't enough people dying locally to "spread the wealth around"? Maybe Ellenberg should have opened up in Chicago. He should have called the family and explained to them that their relative wouldn't fit in his incinerator. CYA if you will. If the family didn't want their member dismembered, they could have changed plans. These arrangements are very expensive as many of us are aware.
Tadaki Macon October 8, 2012 at 08:18 pm
Grant, the point is he was supposed to obtain permission first. Cremated or not, I'd like to be told "we need to chop up your dad in order to obey his final wishes."
Glen DeGelnor October 8, 2012 at 08:38 pm
Personally, I don't care what they do with me. I can imagime what a regular funeral would have cost with an oversized casket and hole!
Blah blah blah October 8, 2012 at 08:43 pm
You're all missing the point. Eight hundred pounds. 800. Can you visualize that? 800 pounds of disgusting blubber that's gonna' smoke like hell when it hits the fire.
He should have said, "Take your fat carcass elsewhere...you're not good enough for MY oven, ya' fat piece of crap." They should give him a medal for even pondering it. FAT PEOPLE ARE DISGUSTING and deserve to be dismembered and burned up.
Grant October 8, 2012 at 08:55 pm
On that point we differ Tadaki,
If I have dropped a giant corpse off to be burnt to ashes I'm really not at all interested in the procedure as long as the result is as expected.
Cathey Stewart October 8, 2012 at 10:06 pm
There's the little matter of 'respect' that says you should call the family of the deceased before you dismember it.
Cathey Stewart October 8, 2012 at 10:06 pm
So true!
Rex Smithers October 8, 2012 at 10:07 pm
"If I have dropped a giant corpse off to be burnt to ashes"
Grant, is that what the family did? Maybe I missed the part of the story where the loved ones backed up their truck, dumped their relative with the understanding that Ellenberg Funeral Services was to do whatever it takes so long as he fit in a jar when they were done? As usual, Sharon Swanepoel from the Patch cheers Grant on for his offensive contributions. You people make me sick! You delete blog contributions when you are personally offended yet put your smiley faces on BS posted by people like Grant who are clearly posting to offend. Is this what PATCH.COM is charging their advertisers for?

If I were family I would much rather not know the gory details and be further scarred by the image of my loved one being chopped into manageable pieces.. I say just let him do his job as best he can.

David, it's still there we are just in the process of working out the bug on uploading photos toRead More articles that we authored (ugh!). I just didn't want to promote it and have people try and upload photos unsuccessfully. Depending on how long it takes to address this issue, I may keep June open through part of July - I hope not. If you have any photos you want to add, email them to me and I will upload them for you in the meantime.

Yea, sorry David. We are still dealing with some "issues." It rejected Jason's blog, andRead More none of us, not even our top regional editor, is being given authority to release it. Please keep these comments coming. We are forwarding all these issues to our production team. TheRead More ones that are most pressing are more likely to be addressed first. Once we have the initial roll out completed and working well, the tweaking will begin.

What's sad is that people will accuse you of needing a tinfoil hat because of this post. But weRead More are marching inexorably toward this end, the only thing we can really control is how quickly or slowly we get there.....
TheSkalawag June 18, 2013 at 08:29 pm
I don't think that Ray needs a tinfoil hat but I just don't see the inexorable march to theRead More dystopian world Ray is foretelling either. I do understand the gloom and doom outlook and I attribute that to the unrealistic quest for the Norman Rockwell version of life in America. That kind of life was made for tv. Life never really was like that. At least not that I remember anyway. And I would wager not for the majority of Americans.
Good Grief Y'all June 19, 2013 at 09:55 am
Ray was wearing his tinfoil hat when he wrote this. Yikes! America being dominated by fear andRead More repression is exactly what the progressives have been fighting against all along, especially so since 2007. Cynicism is creepy.

I agree with Raven Nichols. I think that it is more important to find out the reasons WHY kids areRead More contemplating and committing suicide. GGY is right. It is a dark subject and off putting but the fact that kids are taking their own lives at such a young and tender age is an even darker subject that can't wait to be addressed until they are in college they may not make it that far. I disagree with Tammy in that I don't think girls have don't have a more drama in High School than boys. It's just drama over different things. And I don't think that the teacher was looking for objectivity but insight into the reasons for teen suicides. After all who would have a better understanding of the why suicides occur in teens than other teens. I applaud the teacher.
Good Grief Y'all June 19, 2013 at 09:49 am
I see your point Skalawag and I raise it. Maybe this would be a good CDC survey subject. ImagineRead More the backlash, though! I still think it's a dangerous topic as a class assignment. We probably already know the reasons for teen suicide. We do need better methods and awareness to identify those at risk.

Tr - the perfect diet - the Mediterranean diet has a lot of fish in it. Olive oils etc... OurRead More American diet has a lot of animal fat in it and look at us as opposed to other nations! Fish oil is brain food. A multi is good, but we should ask our pediatricians about adding fish oil to our kids' diets. We should get our (good) fats through diet. Good fats help vitamins go where they are supposed to and do what they're supposed to do.
