DUI, Failure to Yield Charges Pending in Feb. 17 Wreck on Hwy 78 in Loganville

Accident happened at 8:48 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at the intersection of Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road, Loganville, in unincorporated Gwinnett.

Gwinnett County Police report that a 22-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a wreck that occurred on Highway 78 at Hoke O'Kelly Road in Loganville on Feb. 17 will likely face driving under the influence charges.

Cpl. Ed Ritter, public information officer for the GCPD, said charges of DUI and failure to yield are pending against the Lawrenceville woman. According to the incident report, Jasmine M. White, 22, was travelling eastbound on Highway 78 and attempted to turn left onto Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road. She was struck by a pickup truck truck traveling westbound on Highway 78. The pickup truck then struck a second passenger car waiting to turn onto Highway 78 from Hoke O-Kelly Mill Road. The occupants of the second car hit were not injured, but White and the driver of the pickup truck, Heath Knudsen, 47, of Loganville, were both transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries.

According to the report, officers responding to the scene and paramedics reported a smell of alcohol on the breath and person of White. Blood alcohol tests were done and the charges are now pending. No update was given on the conditition of either White or Knudsen.
