Drowning Occurs at Lake Lanier on Labor Day

Doraville man, 25, dies while swimming across a cove at Van Pugh Park.

A 25-year-old Doraville man drowned at Lake Lanier on Labor Day (Sept. 3).

Kyle Miller drowned at Van Pugh Park at about 4 p.m. Monday, Melissa Cummings, communications/outreach specialist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources reported.

Miller was swimming across a cove at the day-use area with two others when he went under. The Hall Count Dive Team recovered his body in about 15 feet of water some 20 yards from the bank at 4:22 p.m., Cummings reported.

According to Cummings, there was another drowning reported by the DNR on the weekend. A 53-year-old man drowned while wading in the Ogeechee River. Other incidents reported over the Labor Day weekend (Saturday to Monday) included:

--Boating incident-related injuries: 4 (non-life-threatening injuries;
all on Lanier)

--Boating incident-related fatalities: 0
