Demolition Derby on GA 20

A series of wrecks on GA 20 this week has resulted in several people having to make trips to local hospitals.

by the Georgia State Patrol had already resulted in three people having to be treated at area hospitals. At about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office worked a wreck at GA 20 at Ivory Road involving a semi truck. According to the report, the truck, driven by Scott Dinsmore, had run off the road and into some trees. The driver reported he had swerved to avoid an unknown vehicle heading toward him. He was transported to with injuries. The vehicle had to be towed.

Another three people were transported to hospitals Wednesday following a three-vehicle crash on GA 20 north of Creekwood at about 9:10 a.m. According to a report by Georgia State Patrol, a 2010 Dodge Caravan, driven by James Alvin Brown, 47, from Loganville and a 2001 Ford Escape, driven by Michael G. Cross, 53, from Decatur were reportedly stopped on GA 20. A 2007 Honda Civic being driven by Bethany A. Timms, age 22, from Loganville could not stop in time and hit the Caravan, pushing it into the Escape. The GSP spokesman said Timms was taken to Gwinnett Medical for treatment and Cross and a passenger in his vehicle - Vinnette A. Walker, age 52, from Covington - were taken by ground to Rockdale Medical Center.  Timms was charged with following too closely and Brown was charged with driving on a suspended license.

Finally, at around 7 p.m. last night a Loganville woman was involved in a collision with another vehicle on GA 20 at the intersection with Sharon Church Road. That accident was worked by the since it happened inside the city limits. Maj. Greg Warnack said the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene, but got into another wreck a little further down the road when she allegedly ran into some bushes. She then tried to flee on foot, but was tracked down and arrested.

“She was taken to Walton County (Detention Center) and faces several charges, including driving under the influence,” Warnack said.

WSCO did not have the final report and could not yet provide names or details of the accident. They did confirm, however, that a woman was arrested following those last two accidents Wednesday.
