Arrests Made in Bay Creek Park Armed Robbery

So far two suspects, one from Grayson and one from Loganville, Ga., have been arrested and charged in an armed robbery that happened in Bay Creek Park on May 18.

Gwinnett Police are making progress in arresting the suspects in an armed robbery that took place at last month.

According to an incident report from Gwinnett County Police Department, officers were flagged down by the victim a little before midnight on May 18. The victim reported that a group of suspects had accosted him near the skate park when the lights in the area went out. He reported that there were three men involved in the robbery.

As soon as the lights went out, one is reported to have brandished a silver revolver. He is reported to have said to the victim, “It sure is a nice night for a robbery. With the lights out, nobody can see me.”

The victim was told to give everything he had, which he did, reportedly turning over a pack of cigarettes, a pocketknife and his hat.

The suspect then ran across the parking lot, where he was picked up in a white Honda Civic by one of the other suspects. Witnesses told police this was not the first robbery of it’s kind in the park and some believed some of the same suspects were involved.

One of the suspects, , was arrest last month and a second, James Darnell Peace, of Loganville, was arrested on June 4. Peace was picked up at Bay Creek Park. Police report a third suspect is still under investigation. Thonton was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and four counts of entering an auto. Peace was charged with armed robbery and making false statements. Both men remain in Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.

Bay Creek Park is located in unincorporated Gwinnett County between Grayson and Loganville, Ga. This is not the first time problems have been reported at this location. off a firestorm with many area residents saying the park should be closed after hours.
