UPDATE: Robbery Attempt at Athens First Bank in Loganville

There was an attempted robbery early Tuesday morning at the Athens First bank in Loganville.

Loganville and Gwinnett Police were still canvasing the area around the Athens First Bank and Trust following what appeared to be an attempted bank robbery early Tuesday morning. Lt. Mike Westbrooks said at about 8 a.m. he was headed to what he believed to be the scene of an armed robbery. However, it is reported that the suspect took off running before any robbery was attempted.

Loganville resident Kristin Henshaw said Trinity Christian Academy, adjacent to the bank, was put on lockdown while K-9 units canvassed the area.

"The K-9 unit was at the old Kuppenheimer building and there were police officers around the school," Henshaw said, adding that students at Trinity were taken to an inner room.

"My son is a student there. We were told the school has now been given the option of lifting the lockdown although the suspect has not been caught, Henshaw said at about 10 a.m. "They are going to keep it on a little longer, just to be safe."
