Should the President Attend Concert Featuring Rapper Who Once Sang Anti-American Song?

The president plans to attend a concert that includes PSY, the Korean "Gangnam Style" rapper who once sang about murdering American soldiers "slowly and painfully."

A furor arose recently when it was learned that President Barack Obama would be attending a traditional Christmas concert this year that includes an appearance by PSY, the Korean rapper who has become a media sensation with his song “Gangnam Style.” The fallout is over anti-American sentiments PSY espoused in a song back in 2004 with words that advocated killing American soldiers and their families “slowly and painfully.”

A petition objecting to the president's attendance that went up on the White House petition website was promptly removed, according to an article in The Daily Mail. It was reported to have “violated the terms of participation,” although it is not clear what terms those were.

Veterans and families of American soldiers reportedly took to the airwaves and the Twitttersphere urging the president not to attend the concert or to have PSY scrapped from the lineup. So far, it appears neither is going to happen. The White House has reportedly confirmed that the president will be in attendance, as is tradition, and the Korean rapper remains on the lineup. PSY has since apologized for his 2004 anti-American lyrics.

What do you think? Should everyone let bygones be bygones or should the president ask that PSY be struck from the lineup as a term of his attendance?

Subject retention, its a WONDERFUL thing...
So lets all play "Connect the Dots". For any that need a refresher course in how to follow a story line ... GGY qouted text above: "Maybe people on my side of the political aisle are more content and less prone to rant and rage." Reply: "I wouldn't take that bet in this lifetime ..."

Well you can get more done if you don't EVEN read it BEFORE passing it.
Bonus points! You get to claim ANYTHING you want about it because NOBODY can PROVE what you did Last Summer!! Heck it still isn't completely WRITTEN in 2012... I wish I had turned in my thesis under those conditions ...

No they just left to check out "Eye Candy1" on the View ...
Perhaps if the "View" had been consulted initially, this entire incident never would have taken place... See all this domestic Presidential "stuff" cuts into important policy meetings, I sure hope he asks the ladies about Libya before Christmas, its time for an answer ...
R December 12, 2012 at 06:21 am
No but he is expected to know that "corpsemen" are members of a TV show cast for the "The Walking Dead", NOT members of any branch of our country's military ...

No, they cut out because they finally embarrassed themselves but weren't men enough to apologize.
You seem to have a real problem with that View appearance. You do know what self-deprecating humor is, don't you? Romney had to hide from such exposure. He might have been asked a "gotcha" question.
Good Grief Y'all December 12, 2012 at 12:20 pm
Come again, R? What do you mean? You wanna give me examples?
Good Grief Y'all December 12, 2012 at 12:27 pm
R, that's a simplistic analysis. The President got much more done than the health care law, which a number of presidents tried but failed to accomplish. The law will be improved - that's why we have to gain the House in 2014. The law was passed in 2010 but won't be fully implemented until 2014. And, by the way, Congress wrote the law, not the President. That's the way it's done. They write, he signs or vetoes.
Good Grief Y'all December 12, 2012 at 12:31 pm
Thanks for the clarification R. Guess I missed your point because I wasn't proposing a bet. Not a gambler. I stand by what I said. That's what I see and hear.
Good Grief Y'all December 12, 2012 at 12:40 pm
R, you're a busy guy at such a late, or early hour. Voters are impatient. Some of them bought the RW rhetoric that President Obama was supposed to fix 8 years of failed policy immediately. Also, the right-wing faction took off from the Palin implosion and ran with her ridiculous talking points. Fox channel is played in all the doctor, dentist, hospital waiting rooms all around here, and probably most of the rest of the South and square states. That was a big influence. No matter, he won, which is what matters. The President wasn't performing at the "garden party". It's traditional for him to attend that event. If he hadn't gone there would have been an uproar, too, and it would have been from your people. Those maryjane laws are new. You don't know what the DOJ is planning. I hope you aren't inferring what it looks like with your "21" salute. That's traitorous.
Good Grief Y'all December 13, 2012 at 01:28 am
He knows R. He was probably reading from one of those teleprompters he's criticized for and that every president since their invention has also used. Would be easy to do. Maybe he was emotional about the purpose for the message at the time. He hasn't hidden the war dead from Americans like his predecessor did.

We have seen selective recall, questionable vision and a not so open mind in play ...
Therefore, what's been reported as having been seen is subject to heavy filtering. America isn't she great? There are the glass "half full" types, the glass "half empty" types and the engineering types that see a glass twice the size needed and take personal action to swap it out for one of correct size... Perspectives, if you can't see the other side, you never get the full picture. "I am Geek", hear me calculate ...
R December 13, 2012 at 03:51 am
YES I can say that I do and I have seen it presented around the globe over the past 4 years. Depending on the culture where it's presented, it doesn't often have the impact one would hope for...

Unless you have to face "The Knights who say Ni" or a real World leader. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_who_say_Ni (The View DOES address serious issues at times, but not with candidates running for office...)

Ah but if we review past actions of this ADMINISTRATION'S DOJ and the Black Panther voter intimidation case the GOVERNMENT had won, but simply refused to send council to ENFORCE, we can predict with some reasonable success how this will go...

We are somewhat limited for in-depth presentations around here, so lets keep it entertaining... Simplistic? Not really, sadly far more accurate. They write it? Outsource it maybe, for if they ACTUALLY created it, then they would know what's in it BEFORE they voted to pass it, don't you think? But we KNOW they "didn't build that" ... Accomplished much? Why certainly! Walked firearms into Mexico ... Sued states for daring to pass laws and regulations that are based solely on existing FEDERAL requirements and then had the audacity to attempt to support the FEDs in enforcement thereof... The very laws that our President voluntarily allowed himself to be sworn to uphold... The UNLAWFUL presence of several the President's own FAMILY, here without legal visas - pushed off into the twilight... (Makes one long for the days of Billy Carter) The creation of the "virtual" executive order process. Policy guidelines that are conveyed verbally - without any legally binding text. When have you EVER heard a law student or a lawyer tell ANYONE "Don't put that in Writing"? Ask a REAL Lawyer how that works out in the overwhelming number of cases where it was applied and they'll share about the type of person that works way... Who can take a sunrise Sprinkle it in dew Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two? The candyman The candyman can The candyman can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good... In short, I don't think so - it wasn't an emotional moment, but a routine relaxed speech.
Again an example of concern as it looks like life imitating a commercial for Jimmy Dean microwavable breakfast biscuits. The one where the weather reporter repeats "word for word" what's whispered into the headset, without ANY thought at all...

Some people pay too much attention to the trivial, often ridiculous, gossipy items about the President, and others they're determined not to like (hate).
I do agree about perspectives and seeing the other side too. Maybe you should try that sometime.
Good Grief Y'all December 13, 2012 at 12:27 pm
R, when you don't like (hate) the President, it is so easy to nitpick and criticize, isn't it? When that's the case, one seizes upon every word whether he says it or some broadcaster or email says he says it or how he says it. It's that perspective thing you yourself brought up. The only Americans who truly know what it's like, what's involved, to be the POTUS are the ones who have been and their spouses to a lesser degree, then their cabinet and advisers to a different degree.
Good Grief Y'all December 13, 2012 at 12:35 pm
I'm sure Romney laughs, too, but not at himself. Too prideful. And Romney declined his campaign View appearance and sent Ann, because it's hard running for president. I'm really surprised that you watch the View. I catch it occasionally and find that I enjoy it. Until I gave it a chance I couldn't stand it b/c those women usually talk all at once. Most all the candidates nowadays appear on TV - late night and daytime talk shows, magazine-type shows. It's the 2000sies. It's expected and gives Americans a different, what's the word? . . . perspective.
Good Grief Y'all December 13, 2012 at 01:43 pm
R, you're right about the outsourcing of bill writing by Congress - ALEC.
F&F was a program started during the Bush admin. They may have renamed it. Pelosi was talking to reporters bombarding her with questions, saying they will know what's in it when it passes because bills often change before they become law. If lawmakers didn't read or know what was in it when they passed it, the onus is on them. I'm not a legal professional and neither are most Americans. The President is not the DOJ, but he is a lawyer. Are you? You don't think Republican presidents and veeps ever used executive orders, written or "virtual" that you claim? Cheney rewrote the VP job description. You and I will never agree, so there's not much point to this, is there? I think everyone else has left the thread.
Good Grief Y'all December 13, 2012 at 01:51 pm
Some do watch Fox for the laughs, to learn what the other side is talking about, for some it's their job to analyze and report on political punditry. Others, most of us, see enough clips to know what Fox is about and do our own research and analysis.
R December 14, 2012 at 03:03 am
There we go...
The HATE card - You don't agree so it MUST be hate. Really no its NOT hate at all, but time to consistently start pointing out the frailties, lest folks get blinded in their enamor. Just like if you DON'T think the undocumented (ILLEGAL) and documented (LEGAL) immigration methods are one in the same - it's hate. When in fact its just pointing out reality.
R December 14, 2012 at 03:20 am
Yep, there's a time and a season for everything under the sun.
The default conservative viewpoint compels one to normally finish the work before playtime... Late-night shows? Most are after hours and wouldn't interfere with business, but when you're President, you can expect to meet with foreign leaders on behalf of the USA. The "View time" is playtime and when you consciously choose to skip meetings with our allies (work) for playtime, its a foul. Especially when you CAMPAIGNED on increasing communication with world leaders... It's a foul that should be called regardless of race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Given the conditions within the Middle-East now, frankly it was a poor and inexcusable one. On the other hand, had it been Jeopardy! hmmmm....

Sadly, Mr. Newman, we have people who live in a utopic vision of the world and refuse to believeRead More that this can happen. Sounds a bit like 1984.
