Friends Organize Benefit For Hunter Family

The Hail Mary Pub to host benefit with silent auction and cornhole tournament.

Tim Hunter had just a few warning signs in October, and in mid-November, was diagnosed with esophageal and liver cancer. Upon his diagnosis, Tim started intensive chemo therapy, a week later went back to get a feeding tube and on December 29, 2012, lost his valiant struggle with this aggressive cancer.

Tim was healthy and active; he served our country as a US Marine, a US Navy Veteran and a member of the Georgia Defense Force. He was an avid runner and cyclist and a member of the Atlanta Track Club.  As a self-employed landscape contractor, Tim manicured and designed a number of yards; leaving his mark on our community with flowers, trees, bushes and bedlines which shout "Tim was here"!

His family and friends are stunned at the void left by his death. Tim leaves behind Joanne, his wife of 18 years and their four children: Sydney (15), a 9th grader at Grayson High School; Jack (14) an 8th grader at Couch Middle; and the twins, Jane & Sam (12) who are 6th graders at Couch Middle School.

Tracy Glover is among those friends who look to support the family during this time."To know this family would make it apparent "why" there is so much love surrounding them," Glover said. "Tim was larger than life and lit up a room the moment you saw him (or heard him)!  He passes this love of life down to all four kids, as you can see a little of him in each ... and in a fe of them, you can see A LOT."

And while there are those who knew him and loved him, during his battle, there were those who had never met him but sent prayers for Tim and the family. And people who still want to make a difference.

Glover and a few friends are coordinating a benefit, to be held in Tim's honor, to raise money for the Hunter children. The benefit is scheduled for February 23rd, from 1-6pm at The Hail Mary Sports Pub in Grayson, GA.  "There will be a cornhold tournament, a silent auction, and much more. All proceeds from the event will go into an account, to be divided equally among all four children."

"Blake Hawkins, with the Hail Mary Pub, has been such a blessing to offer up the facility, as well as getting numerous donations of food, beer and raffle items ... this wouldn't be possible without him!"

Craig Shapiro, who is working with the benefit efforts, hopes to make this an annual event.
