WHITLEY, AVIS MARDELL - Avis Mardell Whitley of Loganville went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ Sunday, October 23, 2011. Graveside Services will be held 2 PM Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Cemetery, Grayson. Rev. Tim Brogan and Rev. Mixon Cowart will officiate. Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her late husband Thomas Joseph Whitley with whom she was happily married to for 37 years, parents Mr. & Mrs. Russell Lee Porter, brothers Clyde Dewitt Porter, James Royce Porter, Earnest Ray Porter, Russell Eugene Porter, Clarence Porter, & sisters Judith Katherine Crowe, & Addie Ruth Peavey. She is survived by Sisters: Evelyn Boyett, Marjorie Holbrook, Doris Spain, Shirley Roebuck; Brother: Raleigh Porter. Mrs. Whitley was born on Friday, December 31, 1926. She was a devoted member for 58 years to the First Baptist Church of Grayson and was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class for 56 years. Mrs. Whitley loved her church, wonderful neighbors and friends. She was employed with Genesco for 29 years, Dolco Packaging for 10 years and later was a greeter at Wal Mart. Mrs. Whitley never had children of her own but she was always a wonderful aunt to lots of nieces & nephews. She loved cooking, baking & sewing. Most people did not know she was a wonderful seamstress; she made lots of pretty dresses for her younger sisters & herself. Mrs. Whitley loved her sisters & brothers; always there for them when she was needed. Most of all, she loved taking care of her Mother & Daddy up until the day they went home to be with the Lord, for that she was always grateful. Flowers accepted or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Chestnut Baptist Church of Grayson, GA for the up keep of the cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Road, SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
