Mattie “Granny” Lizzie King, age 93, of Loganville, GA, passed away January 8, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Ezell. Mrs. King was laid to rest on Jan. 10, 2013. Those desiring may make a contribution in memory of Mrs. King to Loganville Christian Church, 4339 Atlanta Highway, Loganville, Georgia 30052.770-466-0863.

For many years there was an annual tradition in September - the birthday celebration of Mrs. King, or "Granny" as she was affectionately known. Mrs. King worked at McDonald's  for many years and her birthday celebration usually took place at the restaurant, even after she no longer worked there. In 2011, however, her birthday celebration took place at Loganville Christian Church

The first birthday party had been thrown for Mrs. King by a group of senior citizens who met regularly at the McDonald’s in Loganville where she worked. It was there where she became known to everyone as Granny. When she lost her husband, the owner talked her into working instead of retiring because he knew she needed something to keep her busy.

GGY, she was so sweet. She would call the newspaper every year to make sure that someone was at her birthday party. I covered it in 2011 for Loganville-Grayson Patch too. When my daughter was in high school, she worked at the Loganville McDonald's and they all knew and loved Granny.
