Stop Bracing... Start Flowing

Let it go + let it flow! It's the bracing that creates ill feelings + the inability to deal with change.

In surfing, you need to stay fluid to adjust to the waves. Bracing yourself + being rigid will get you all wet. We grip and brace ourselves against all sorts of change. Expectation of a specific outcome IS bracing. It is a rigidness. When you expect things to be a certain way, you can almost always guarantee disappointment. Nothing and no one can live up to your expectations. Not even YOU!

Have you ever been frustrated with your own performance in a yoga or fitness class? Have you ever gotten anxious because your favorite store moved their products around? How about road work + detours? And the majority of the time it's at the hands of someone else, right?!

It is easier to blame the external. We get good at pointing the finger when we are rigid but yoga helps us clear the mind clutter + shine the light inside. It shows us how clean out the cob webs, release the grip on emotions that don't serve us + soften to change. We become fluid. We don't rid ourselves completely of those feelings (anger, anxiety, etc.) but we become aware of them. We start to embrace the change as an opportunity for growth.

A strong tree wouldn't stand a chance in our summer storms if it didn't bend to the winds. And a surfer wouldn't stay on the board if he stood straight up + tense.
