Procession through Loganville To Honor Fallen Hero

Family of Maj. W David Gray to ride through town at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, prior to Memorial Service.

The family of a in Afghanistan will be escorted through town on their way to his Memorial Service on 4:30 Tuesday Afternoon.

Gray, 38, was killed when a suicide bomb was detonated near Kabul Afghanistan on Aug. 7. He leaves behind a wife and three young children, who currently reside in Colorado. The western Walton County residence where he grew up has a Conyers mailing address, which has led many media outlets to list that as his hometown. But Gray hailed from Loganville, graduating from in 1992.

His formal funeral was held on Friday, Aug. 18. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetary in Northern Viginia on Aug. 24.  A local Memorial Sevice to be held at on Tom Brewer Rd is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

The family will be escorted by to the Memorial Service site at about 4:30 p.m. Friends of the family are asking for local people to show their support by lining Highway 78 from Old Loganville Road to Highway 81 south.

"We are also asking business owners through town to lower their flags to half mast and to use their marquee signs to express love to his family," said Carolyn Woods, a fellow graduate of Gray's.

Friends also ask that the public and media respect the family's privacy by allowing them to gather privately prior to the service.
