The Truth About Skin After 191lb Weight Loss

Here it is....the truth. What really happens to someone's body when they lose 150+lbs? What are they left with? What will it take to have a body that looks good in clothes again?

If you don’t want to know the truth, do not read any further and, for goodness sake, do NOT look at the pictures!

However, if you are interested in the real body behind the Spanx and the body contouring undergarments, click Hanging Skin!  This link has pictures of me that were taken yesterday.  Additionally, click Hanging Skin to see pictures from a little over a year ago.

And now for the rest of the story….

I assume, if you are still reading this far, you are interested- maybe you have a dark side and you are intrigued by the gross and gory or maybe you are looking to lose a large amount of weight and you want to see what may be in your near future or MAYBE you love and care about me and are actually interested in what is going on in my life.  I don’t care which category you might fall into, but I am happy that you are still here!

Since you have seen the Hanging Skin pictures and most likely checked out the most recent AJC article about my hanging skin and the cost of removal of said nuisance, I will now go into more specifics about what I would actually have done for the $50K…

follow me into my dream world….

The day that I have the $50K, I will call Dr. Sheldon Lincenberg of Georgia Plastic Surgery and schedule the first of 3 surgeries.  The first surgery would involve the top half of my body.  In that surgery, I would undergo a breast reduction.  ”Why??”, you ask.  Well, I am TIRED of my breasts touching my belly button.  No, I am NOT kidding, I am being very literal here!  Additionally, there is way more skin than there is breast tissue at this point.  I know you have probably seen (back in the day) when your grandmother or mother had onions hanging in panty hose….yep, there is your visual!  While the surgeon is performing the breast reduction, he will also remove the extra skin around the bra line, under my arm, and on my arms.  Basically, everything between my neck and lower bra line will be tightened up.

Approximately, six weeks later, I will undergo surgery #2.  In this surgery, the panniculus will be removed in a procedure called, a Panniculectomy.  After that, a Fleur-de-lis Abdominoplasty will be preformed.  In that surgery, the remaining excess skin around my waist and hips would be removed.  My abdominal muscles would be sown back together (apparently, the surgeon was able to touch my organs through my abs- NOT NORMAL), my mid-section would be cinched up like a life vest, and the vertical incision would be closed.  Finally, the skin from my mid-section would be pulled down, with a new location being made for my belly button, and the horizontal incision going from one side of my back around the front to the other side of my back would be closed.

This second surgery will take longer to recover from, but at some point 6-12 weeks down the road, I would go back for the third and final surgery to remove the excess skin from between my upper thighs.

Some months after that, I would FINALLY be able to see the body that I have been working hard to create and that has been hiding underneath all of the excess skin.  What a wonderful day that would be!!!  I will be able to wear women’s t-shirts and tank tops and shorts that don’t make me look like a grandmother.  I will be able to jump off of rocks on Stone Mountain, jump rope, and dance without hearing the flapping of flags (I mean my arms and belly) in the wind.

Dream with me….just dream………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

Sorry!  I drifted off there, but if you are in the process of losing a large amount of weight, this is what may be in store for you.  I am sorry to say that a lot of insurance companies, including mine, will not cover even a portion of any of these procedures.  It is CRUEL in my opinion that insurance companies will not consider what remains after someone has taken it upon themselves to become healthier.  They (insurance companies) want us to become healthier so that we cost them less, BUT when we are left with abdomens that resemble theater drapes and onions in panty house for breasts, they say, “Sorry, we can’t help you there!”  What are we to do??

Well, one of my long-term goals for MOVE YOUR BODY Transformation is to start a fund/grant to assist people who are wanting to have body contouring surgery after losing 100+lbs.  I want to help people who feel as helpless as I have felt since last July when I decided to go in and have my consultation with Dr. Lincenberg.  I want to be part of bringing the smile back to their faces.

Until then, I continue to work towards paying off my bills and look forward to the day that I am able to call Georgia Plastic Surgery back and say, “Let’s do it!”

Did you have gastric bypass surgery and lose it fast or did you lose it slowly? I am trying to decide what to do as I need to lose a large amount of weight.

By the way, I am very proud of you for taking the risk of being honest and transparent. Bless you!

Tonya- I lost the weight over 16 months completely naturally through changing my food and exercising. I have written a program, MOVE YOUR BODY Transformation Program, based on what I did. If you are interested, you can find it on my website, www.moveyourbodytransformation.com. Good luck!
