A Big "Deal"

Governor Deal signs off on Parental Alienation Awareness Week

This Thursday, February 7th, will go down in my life as a unique experience that will hopefully have long-term effect. Myself and nine other members of the Georgia Chapter of the Parental Alienation Awareness Organization are going to Governor Deal's office at the Capital in Atlanta and having a meet and greet in recognition of him signing a Proclamation declaring April 21st - April 28th Parental Alienation Awareness Week in the State of Georgia.

I knew when January hit that I would hit the ground running in preparation for this years' parental alienation awareness day. Our first event was last year and I knew there were some improvements to be made as well as expanding to do as the past year has brought new members and new avenues to spread awareness.

I contacted the Governor's Office just to inquire about getting a state proclamation and his scheduling staff graciously opened their arms to our group and Governor Deal has wholeheartedly chosen to support our cause and efforts to raise awareness about this little known term.

As soon as the date was set for our photo op and meet and greet, the flood gate of opportunity opened. Our members have graciously donated their time and skills to further the mission of our campaign. We have a few news media outlets lined up to cover this event and plenty of people wanting to know more about parental alienation and what it means to the families of Georgia.

Getting the support of our elected officials means an immense amount to me. It validates what we're trying to do and have done thus far. It also means further support in the future as our Georgia chapter expands with new regional chapters in Middle Georgia, South Georgia, and possibly Atlanta.

So, yes, this Thursday is a big "Deal" (pun intended! hah!) and I'm hopeful for all the opportunity it will bring.

By the way, if you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring our Bubbles of Love Day Event this year, let me know! We're looking for businesses that would like to sponsor the event and help out with costs or would like to donate bubbles or other services. Any community input would be helpful! I can be reached at hilaryetta@gmail.com for more information.
