SCCA Solo Points Event #1 Held Last Sunday

You missed our fun!

A little different post than the weather this time!

The Atlanta Region of the Sports Car Club of America hosted the first Solo event of the season last weekend at Stone Mountain Park. This was the first time the SCCA has held an event at the park and more than 160 entries showed up to run on a beautiful Sunday.

Your's truly was in attendance to drive after being out of the car for almost 5 months and was a little rusty but still managed to do OK! We ran on the Daisy Lot if you're familiar with the park, and as you'll be able to see from the videos (see below), it's pretty rough. You can hear the car scrapping the ground over the bumps.

I was trying out my new GoPro Hero2 camera for the first time on the car and happy to say it worked great so I have a few videos to share with everyone. These videos are best viewed fullscreen and in High-Def (you can change the options in the video window) and even better with sound!

At local events we get four runs, no practice, all you can do is walk the course to get familiar with it. Each cone adds two seconds to your time so running clean is the goal. The videos start with our 2nd runs. Jim Murphy owns the car (I'm just the hired gun!) so I've included links to his runs too.

The preliminary results have been posted, I was fortunate enough to win my class (EM) by more than 4 seconds as well as have fastest time of the day (FTD). Still, I left a lot of time on the course so I've got to work a little harder next time. Oh, in case you haven't see what I drive, the picture has been added.
