In an update on the return of the , it was announced that there would be two Grand Marshals this year – the Tuskegee Airmen and Loganville wounded
The theme of the parade is Honoring our Hometown Heroes and Allen is just that. He returned to Loganville last year, to an outpouring of support from the local community, after spending almost two years recovering in Tampa from wounds he received during active duty in the Middle East.
Other participants in the parade include the newly-crowned and the . Jerry Golden of Golden Productions said there are only two parades in the Atlanta region this year – Marietta and the City of Loganville. He said he believes the one in the city will be “one to remember.”
“The difficult part will be figuring out what to come up with next year if there’s one,” he said.
Details of the route and times have yet to be released, but information is expected to go out Monday in city residents’ utility bills. There were some anxious moments at Thursday’s city council meeting as officials tried to iron out who would be responsible for picking up the tab for police, fire and other city services. After much discussion, the matter was settled in the name of the Tuskegee Airmen. Scott Meader, general manager for THX Cinema Services out of California, said his company would pick up the tab. City Manager Bill Jones, after tabulating the costs, said it would likely be less than $2,000.
THX Cinema Services is the company that brought the true story of the Tuskegee Airman to the life in the movie “Red Tails.” Meader, who is a Loganville resident, said he didn’t want anything to stand in the way of these true heroes from participating in Loganville’s Fourth of July. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military aviators in the United States, performing with honor during World War II. One of the men reportedly participating in the parade is from Conyers.
