Caring Bridge Page Set Up for Injured GWA Sixth-Grader

The family of Jon Ross Snell, the sixth-grade football player from George Walton Academy who collapsed during football practice on Monday, said he was being brought out of his medically induced coma. The email chain circulating among family and friends gave the following update Friday evening.

"They have taken Jon Ross off the sleep meds and he is breathing on his own. We are hoping he will wake up soon. He has been wiggling in the bed for the last few hours.  Van and Nan are in good spirits."

Jon Ross is the son of Van and Nan Snell, of Loganville. He collapsed at football practice on Sept. 17 and was life flighted to Egleston hospital in Atlanta. According to a Care Bridge Page set up for him, Jon Ross is being treated for a brain hemorrhage to the right side of his brain. He is also reported to have a spot on the stem of his brain. Doctors are uncertain at this time as to the cause. He is reported to have said he wasn't feeling well during Monday's football practice at GWA before collapsing and losing consciousness.
