Trending on Facebook: So How Does Your Broom Stand?

I know, I know, we've all got too much time on our hands.

If you spend anytime at all on Facebook, at least in Walton/Gwinnett County circles, you will see plenty of brooms - just standing there. Nothing supporting them, except for gravity. Well, that's not technically true because it really is standing there in defiance of gravity. Everything tells you the broom should fall down - just look at the height to weight ratio - but it doesn't.

I don't really know why - maybe someone can tell me - but after seeing everybody else's brooms just standing there, I finally gave in and tried it myself. Yes, that is my broom just standing in my entrance way. It might look like it's leaning against the door, but that's just an optical illusion, it's standing up there all on its own. I intend to leave it there until my husband gets home, just to freak him out. I will, of course, have to brace myself for the obvious comment, "You going somewhere? Why didn't you park it in the garage?"

So, how does your broom stand?

Perhaps I am stupid, but this whole meme has absolutely flummoxed me today. What the heck is up with the sudden urge to have janitorial implements stand at attention?

I have no idea. Like I said, I guess we all have too much time on our hands. However, you would not believe the number of people who are doing it, and reading this story for that matter. So what does that say about us as a society? Maybe it's the release we needed from Super Tuesday tension.

I stood an egg on end yesterday!

Ah, so that's what it is. :) And I thought it was just a group of really bored people with too much time on their hand.

For real? The Spring Equinox? Cool Beans!

My "research" (google) tells me the Spring Equinox is not until March 20 and the broom, and egg, theory is an urban legend. Both will stand upright any day of the year if you manage to get the correct balance point.
