Smog Alert For Start Of Holiday Weekend, Rain Predicted For Labor Day

A Code Orange Alert Remains In Force For Saturday, but Tropical Storm Lee is expected to bring rain, and lower temperatures, by Labor Day.

The Georgia Clean Air Campaign has issued a code orange smog alert for the metro Atlanta area, including Walton and Gwinnett, for Saturday, but changes are expected by the end of the weekend.

In Loganville, temperature are expected to reach 95 degrees Saturday and 96 degrees in Grayson, according to Weather.com. However, it is expected to drop to a high of 87 degrees in Loganville Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of rain, and down to a high of 76 degrees on Labor Day with a 90 percent chance of rain. It's much the same for Grayson with a high of 86 degrees expected Sunday, and 30 percent chance of rain, and then a high of 76 degrees Monday with a 90 percent chance of rain. 

Although most people hope for good weather on Labor Day to officially end the summer season, A recent video by Athens Patch is a stark reminder that severe drought conditions could again be in Georgia's future.

In the meantime, Saturday promises the last full day of sunshine for several days, but people are cautioned to remember the Code Orange smog alert that is in force. A Code Orange advisory means children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone concentrations are highest.

Extra caution is also urged for Labor Day travel as wet road conditions are expected.
