Gwinnett School Resource Officer Hit by Car While Directing Traffic

Officer was directing traffic at Lanier High School which he was struck by car. Officials say injuries are serious.

SUGAR HILL, Ga. - A Gwinnett County School Police Resource officer was seriously injured as a result of being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic Wednesday morning at Lanier High School.

According to Gwinnett County Police Department public information officer Cpl. Ed Ritter, the accident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m.

"The officer suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment," Ritter wrote in an email to media outlets.

The Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the accident. Charges are pending for the driver of the vehicle that struck the officer, Ritter added.

Lanier High School is in Sugar Hill.
