Nunley's Vision Honored in Naming of Pavilion at Loganville Town Green

In a ceremony on July 3, 2013, the pavilion at Loganville's new Town Green was dedicated in the name of Mayor Ray Nunley.

The rain held off just long enough on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, for the City of Loganville to dedicate the pavilion of the new Town Green in honor of former Mayor Ray Nunley.

The Town Green had been a vision of Nunley's that he had manage to see almost come to fruition before his death from cancer in April this year. Nunley had stepped down the month before, but had stayed involved with the construction right up to the end, according to City Manager Bill Jones.

Acting Mayor Mark Kiddoo spoke of Nunley's vision and dedication in seeing the Town Green become a reality and Councilwoman Michelle Lynch presented a plaque to Nunley's widow, Joyce Nunley, naming the pavilion The Ray Nunley Pavilion in honor of Nunley.

"Mayor Ray Nunley envisioned a town center that would be the focal point of our city. He played an active role in the development and planning of this project up to the day he passed away," Lynch read from the plaque. "This pavilion is dedicated July 3, 2013, as a lasting tribute to an outstanding leader, public servant and friend of the City of Loganville."

In closing, Jones promised that the annual Fourth of July parade would go on as planned in the rescheduled time of 10 a.m. July 6, 2013 and that the pavilion would be open for future events in the city. He said there were concerts and "Movies on Main" planned for the new Town Green.
