New Loganville Mayor, Councilman Sworn In

New Mayor Dan Curry has to qualify next month to hold onto his seat in November.

A crowd was on hand at City Hall on July 11 for the swearing in of Mayor Dan Curry and Councilman Jay Boland.

For Boland, a newcomer to politics, it was an emotional experience. Choking up as he tried to get the words out, Boland thanked his family and supporters for believing in him. He then took his seat on the council and began his two and a half year term before having to run again.

It won't be quite so easy for Curry. He has little more than a month before he has to qualify to hold onto his seat in the November elections. Curry qualified unopposed to complete the term of the late Mayor Ray Nunley, who resigned in March following his cancer diagnosis late last year. Nunley lost his battle with cancer in April.

As vice mayor, Curry took over the mayoral duties before resigning to qualify for the Special Election on June 18 to complete Nunley's term. During that time, Vice Mayor Mark Kiddoo filled in as acting mayor. Curry presented him with a gavel to commemorate his short stint in the mayor's seat.
