Loganville Man Charged with Arson, False Report of a Crime, Theft and Cruelty to Animals

The suspect, who has the same address as a house that was destroyed by fire on Jan. 31, 2013, remains in Gwinnett County Jail without bond.

A man with the same address as a Loganville house that was set on fire in January has been charged with arson and other crimes, according to Gwinnett County Jail records.

Jonathan Clint Smith, of 4255 Peace Rose Place, Loganville, was arrested by Gwinnett County police on April 4, 2013. He is charged with theft by taking, false report of a crime, cruelty to animals, two counts of theft by deception and 1st degree arson. He remains in the Gwinnett County jail with no bond.

When the fire broke out on Jan. 31, a resident told investigators that intruders had set the home ablaze. The home was declared a total loss.

In the initial press release from Gwinnett County Fire and Rescue on Jan. 31, 2013, public information officer Lt. Colin Rhoden reported that two adults and two children were displaced as a result of the fire. 

Smith was arrested by the Gwinnett County Police Department. GCPD spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith on Thusday night referred questions on the matter to arson investigators.
