Loganville Councilman Returns from Tour of Duty

Councilman Rey Martinez is now back in the U.S. following a tour of duty in the Middle East.

Loganville City Councilman Rey Martinez hopes to be back in Loganville in the near future. He returned to the U.S. last week following an eight-month tour of duty in the Middle East.

“I’m not sure if I will make it in time for the dedication of the pavilion in honor of Mayor Nunley on Wednesday, but I do expect to be at the next city council meeting,” Martinez said, adding he is currently going through the process of getting a full discharge from the military.

Martinez headed out on Labor Day 2012 on a second tour of active duty while serving with the U.S. Navy Reserves. He was elected to the Loganville City Council following his first tour of duty. At the time he did not expect to be called up again so soon, but he has spent the last six months in the Middle East helping with the troop withdrawal. He has, however, kept up his commitment to the city by attending meetings and participating in votes via the phone.
