Frazier Heading to Hollywood in Search of Top Gatorade Title

The 2013 Loganville High School Graduate, now a major league baseball player with the Cleveland Indians, already holds the 2012-13 Gatorade Male High School Player of the Year.

As Gatorade National baseball Player of the Year, 2013 Loganville High School graduate Clint Frazier is preparing to head out to Hollywood to face off against the top prep athletes in America for the title of 2012-13 Gatorade Male High School Athlete of the year. This prestigious award, handed out by Gatorade, is now in its 11th year.

According to the Gatorade press office, the winners will be named at a dinner emceed by ESPN’s Stuart Scott on Tuesday, July 16, in Hollywood. Awards will be presented by Indiana Pacers All-Star Paul George and two-time gold medalist Abby Wambach (1997-98 Gatorade New York Girls Soccer Player of the Year). 

As part of the honor of being nominated for this year’s award, Frazier and his fellow nominees will walk the Red Carpet prior to the ESPY Awards, broadcast on ESPN on Wednesday, July 17.

Since 1985, Gatorade has recognized state and national Players of the Year in 12 sports (six male, six female). In addition to athletic performance, Gatorade Players of the Year must excel in the classroom and demonstrate strong character. Winners are selected by a panel of nationwide sportswriters and commentators.

SELECTION PROCESS

Winners of the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year award will be selected by a panel of nationwide sports experts using the following criteria:

  • Individual résumé for 2012-13
  • Athletic Excellence, Academic Achievement and Exemplary Character
  • Impact on team success
  • Breadth of accomplishment demonstrated to this point in his or her career 

Clint Frazier's 2012-13 Athletic Résumé:

  • Batted .485 with 17 home runs, 56 runs scored, 45 RBI and a 1.134 slugging percentage, leading the Red Devils (26-6) to the Class AAAAA quarterfinals this past season
  • Drove in a run every other at-bat and more than half of his 47 hits went for extra bases
  • Batted .294 with three home runs and nine walks in six postseason games this spring, helping Loganville outscore its opponents by a collective score of 44-25
  • Stole 20 bases in 21 attempts and struck out just eight times in 120-plus plate appearances
  • 2013 Rawlings First Team All-American
  • Selected fifth overall in by the Cleveland Indians in the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft

Career Athletic Résumé:

  • Led the Red Devils to three region titles, the state final four and a state championship in 2012
  • Owns school records for RBI (161), hits (150), runs scored (161), single-season home runs (24) and career home runs (63)

Academic and Community Service Résumé:

  • 3.03 GPA
  • Volunteer as counselor/instructor for a two-week annual youth baseball camp
  • Goodwill visitor at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego
