Strawberry Fields Forever

Strawberry picking season is in full swing at Washington Farms Pick-Your-Own Strawberry Fields in Loganville.

Strawberry picking is in full swing at Washington Farms in Loganville. People were out Monday filling containers with fresh, ripe strawberries.

The Pick-Your-Own Strawberry Fields open at about 8 a.m., but people are encouraged to phone and check before heading out, just to make sure the fields weren't picked out the previous day. The cost if $10 to pick your own, plus $1 for the container, or $12 for a container already picked. With the strawberry season kicking off two weeks early this year, it is unclear how long the season will last.

Washington Farms has two locations, one on Highway 20 between Loganville and Grayson and another one in Watkinsville. The Strawberry Festival this year will be on April 28 at the Watkinsville location. Check the website for details, including recipes for all things strawberry - jams, pies, smoothies and even homemade strawberry ice cream.
