Florida Georgia Line, with Monroe's Tyler Hubbard, Cruise to Top of the Charts

Music duo Florida Georgia Line, featuring Monroe’s own hometown boy Tyler Hubbard, heard on Sunday that their debut single, “Cruise,” hit No. 1 on the Country Music Radio Charts.

It’s been a big year for Florida-Georgia Line, the country music duo featuring Brian Kelley from Florida and Monroe, Ga.’s own Tyler Hubbard. After signing with Republic Records in the summer, the duo saw their star rising at an amazing speed. Not only did their debut single “Cruise” go Gold in October and then Platinum in a matter of weeks, but they also got to introduce music superstar Taylor Swift at the American Music Awards. In November, “Cruise” went to No. 2 on the Country Billboard Charts, just one slot behind Swift’s “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” The YouTube video of “Cruise” has been viewed more than 9 million times.

December looks to be working for the duo too. Sunday they learned that “Cruise” had hit No. 1 on Country Music Radio. On learning of the success of their debut single, Florida-Georgia line wrote the following on their Facebook page.

Y'all we are speechless! Cruise is #1 at Country Radio! This year has been crazy humbling and exciting. Thank you all for being a part of this family and along for the ride with us. We couldn't do it without y'all. Thank you all for fighting for us, coming to see us live, blowin up the radio stations lines, and believing in us. We share this #1 with y'all. This is everyone's. Thank you Country Radio! -BK & T. #herestothegoodtimes

Tomorrow, Florida Georgia Line’s Debut Album "Here's To The Good Times," which includes the hit tune, "Cruise," is scheduled to hit stores. If you’re looking to buy one for Christmas, though, you may want to hurry. According to the comments on the Florida-Georgia Line Facebook page., it looks like the presale copies sold out pretty fast.

All of this is not too shabby for a small town boy who grew up in Monroe, Ga. Hubbard, attended Monroe Elementary School, George Walton Academy and graduated from Loganville Christian Academy. His brother, Cameron, still lives in Monroe and his mother lives in Loganville. Hubbard lost his father, Roy, to a helicopter accident in Monroe in 2005.

The duo, who were recently interviewed on CNN Entertainment after playing to a sold out crowds at Wild Bills in Duluth, go on tour with Luke Bryan in 2013.
