Ten years after battling the Kraken, Perseus (played by Sam Worthington) again finds himself in the midst of a battle of epic proportions in "Wrath of the Titans."
As the demigod son of Zeus, Perseus quiet life as a village fisherman is disrupted as the gods begin to lose their hold over the imprisoned Titans. When the war begins to threaten mortals, Perseus embarks on a quest to save mankind.
“Wrath of the Titans” is the sequel to the 2010 film “Clash of the Titans.” According to Robbie Collin of The Telegraph the film is “as clattery and joyless as its predecessor was.”
Collin wrote, “Admittedly, the final brawl against Kronos is a gas, but that’s largely because it’s an almost shot-for-shot reconstruction of Perseus’s climactic battle with the Kraken in the prequel, which was that film’s only high point.”
In his Chicago Tribune review, Andrew Barker called “Wrath of the Titans” as big of a mess as its predecessor, but praised the filmmakers for adhering “more faithfully to its Greek origins and trimming the fat in essential places.”
“While posing no threat to ‘The Hunger Games,’ ‘Wrath’ should carve a healthy swath through its lesser B.O. competitors,” Barker wrote.
Here’s what other critics had to say about “Wrath of the Titans”:
A charmless stream of battle and fight sequences that contorts mythic characters into blockbuster conventions. It's comically late — literally the last few minutes — that the film even tries to slide emotion into the characters' relations, as if attempting to hypnotize us before leaving the theatre. – Jake Coyle, Associated Press
“Wrath of the Titans” is an improvement. Not a gigantic leap forward for cinema or anything but, armed with a new director, a new story and the return of a trying-harder Worthington and good ol’ Liam Neeson as a put-upon Zeus, a marked upgrade in quality. - Bill Goodykoontz, Postcrescent.com
The 3D in “Wrath of the Titans” is fantastic but the story and action is nothing we haven’t seen before. Then again, why expect anything more from a sequel so clearly meant to make money, and achieve little else. – David Blaustein, ABC News
