Walton County Fourth of July Celebrations

There are several Independence Day events planned in Walton County for those who don't want to venture too far from home.

Staying home to celebrate the Fourth of July instead of traveling? You can pack your weekend full of local events starting Saturday and ending with a fireworks display on Monday, July Fourth.

The Loganville Fourth of July parade will not happen this year as the city didn't budget for a second parade, but there are plenty of other events that you can attend.

Start your celebration on Saturday at noon at Monroe's historic courthouse. The Walton County TEA Party will have speaker Reverend Jody Hice to help celebrate America and its independence.

On Sunday, stay in Monroe and enjoy music, children's activities and more starting at 5 p.m. at the Mcdaniel-Tichenor house. Performances by the Walton County Music Guild, the National Guard and an Army Band will begin at 7 p.m.

On Monday, there are several events to choose from. For those who are members of the American Legion, a barbecue will start at noon for members and their families. Then head on over to the Oasis Church which will be hosting "Summer Groovin" from 3 p.m. Parking is $5 at the church or you can ride the shuttle from the Kroger Shopping Center.

Once it is dark, fireworks will follow. Or you can attend the Annual Freedomfest at the Legion Field at Walton County's Athens Technical College campus. The Jeremy Duggins Band, Oswald Brothers, and Michael Boggs are just some of the entertainment that will be performing, followed by fireworks at 9:30 p.m. There will also be food and games available.
