Patch's Poll: Most Popular Cat Names Of 2011

Take our poll and post a photo of your cat!

According to Veterinary Pet Insurance Co (VPI) and Petfinder.com, a roundup of the most popular pet names in 2011 saw a new top name for cats, although the trend to use traditionally human names continues.

The top 5 cat names in 2011 were Bella (new winner), Max, Chloe, Oliver and Lucy. Rounding out the top 10 were Shadow, Smokey, Tiger, Charlie and Tigger.

So while human names rule the roost for dogs, there are still lots of traditional "animal" names in the cat world.

Take our poll, add your cat's name in the comments if it did not make the list, and most importantly, post a photo of that kitty!

Our cat's name is Butterscotch - called Scotchie

I have a Tigger so at least I have one in the top 10.

Sharon, Kai is such an awesome companion! He is sweet tempered, unlike so many Siamese cats and he is so loving. Thanks for bringing him into my life!

We have a Zeppo, Ziggy and Zoey.

I'm glad I'm not the only 3-cat person here. I was starting to feel like the "crazy cat lady." Patty, I'm really glad Kia found his way to your house. Like Tigger, I can't imagine him surviving on the outside. Tigger is the biggest baby, sits over the heater vent at the first chill in the air and is totally bullied by the "girls."
Patty Burgess January 14, 2012 at 03:08 pm
At one time I had 22 cats but in my defense, all but 6 of them were barn cats. I always had multiple cats, anywhere from 2-6 depending on where I lives. Most cats are happier with companion cats. I'm still looking for another declawed cat as a companion for Kai. Before anyone gets mad at me, the only reason I want a declawed cat is because Kai would be defenseless against a cat with claws and I won't see him hurt. Tigger was just a lovie cat looking for the right home. Glad he found you!

We originally had Sluggo and Nancy. Sluggo was a Maine Coon cat and ran away, but now we have Nancy (Nan-Nan) and KiKi.

Shadow, Speedy, and Oreo

Shannon, Kiki looks just like my Angel, who also is a spitfire and managed to rejuvenate my older cat too. Angel actually plays fetch and we get tired of the game long before she does. If Gordon (my husband) won't play anymore, she goes and gets stuff out of the potpourri bowl and drops it over the back of the chair to play fetch with herself. She then runs down, picks it up and takes it back up to drop off the chair again. Does anyone else have a cat that fetches? I believe it is more common than we thought.
Lisa January 14, 2012 at 04:50 pm
My cat's name is "Jaspurr" and he certainly purrs a lot! :)
Shannon January 14, 2012 at 05:02 pm
Sharon, Kiki also fetches. It's so funny to watch her. She has been doing it since we got her.
Kristen January 14, 2012 at 05:19 pm
I have 3 cats: Gus, Fletcher, and Benjamin Buford Bleu aka Bubba :)
Laura January 14, 2012 at 05:39 pm
We have Indy and Jones.
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) January 14, 2012 at 05:45 pm
Isn't that strange? They are obviously from the same family breed so it must be something in their genes. Is Kiki also super affectionate. Angel is, with the other cats as well as us - but only when it suits her.
Shannon January 14, 2012 at 06:02 pm
She IS affectionate, especially with our kids. Funny how they are so similar, yet from different moms.
Rose Exon January 14, 2012 at 07:49 pm
Our new fur angel's name is Muffin.
Faye Edmundson (Editor) January 15, 2012 at 02:03 am
We have a black male cat called Ninja Joe, Joey for short, and he's tough! And a Balinese female named Misty. When she was little, and her fur was backlighted, it looked like she was coming through the mist.

My cat has a name, but I just call her "cat". Sje ignores me no matter what I call her so I suppose it doesn't really matter...

I have a coworker that wants your fridge. Please email me or leave a number where she can call youRead More & I'll hook y'all up.
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) June 19, 2013 at 09:16 am
David, it's still there we are just in the process of working out the bug on uploading photos toRead More articles that we authored (ugh!). I just didn't want to promote it and have people try and upload photos unsuccessfully. Depending on how long it takes to address this issue, I may keep June open through part of July - I hope not. If you have any photos you want to add, email them to me and I will upload them for you in the meantime.

Rabies tag on dog leads to a disconnected owners number
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) June 18, 2013 at 06:11 pm
Yea, sorry David. We are still dealing with some "issues." It rejected Jason's blog, andRead More none of us, not even our top regional editor, is being given authority to release it. Poor Jason, I know he so hates being rejected! And we hate it happening to him. The people not being "bugged" by technical issues, however, are reporting that it is super easy to use.

I wonder. Will Patch restore the reply button and add a responded to your comment notification?
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) June 19, 2013 at 09:21 am
Please keep these comments coming. We are forwarding all these issues to our production team. TheRead More ones that are most pressing are more likely to be addressed first. Once we have the initial roll out completed and working well, the tweaking will begin.
Dave June 19, 2013 at 07:28 pm
I'm just reporting the news, Skal. I don't know the reasons although I could speculate. Just keepRead More your head down and don't answer the door.
TheSkalawag June 19, 2013 at 07:43 pm
Okay Dave ;-) Whatever you say:-) :-)

R++ "Put it all the questions on the Census..."Read More What does this mean?
TheSkalawag June 19, 2013 at 07:35 pm
I remember my Great Grandmother putting just enough coffee in a cup of milk to color the milk and weRead More would sit and have our "morning coffee" together before we went to the farmer's market on Saturdays or before we went to church on Sundays. Those were some of my most cherished times in my life.
Sharon Swanepoel (Editor) June 19, 2013 at 07:58 pm
So glad you have found your voice again Skalawag!
TheSkalawag June 19, 2013 at 08:12 pm
Me too. Couldn't have done it without you and your great IT team. Thank you Sharon.
Tammy Osier June 17, 2013 at 01:53 pm
DR, seems like an oxymoron doesn't it? I'd like to hear from someone who is actually from there toRead More find out their spin on why they even enter a contestant in the first place. It's my understanding that a woman that shows that much skin in public will be flogged or worse? Maybe democracy is taking ahold in some places, who knows?
Good Grief Y'all June 17, 2013 at 03:24 pm
I was wrong. Guys are interested pageants. You would no doubt be happy if the contestants justRead More wore the face shawl with their bikinis.
Karsten Torch June 17, 2013 at 04:30 pm
Couple of thoughts - One, why hold it in a land where there is going to be this kind of protest?Read More Just move it and don't worry about it. Other, I find it interesting how the Muslims want us to be understanding and inclusive of their beliefs, but don't even think they'll allow anything they don't agree with. Just a tad bit hypocritical...
