Loganville Woman Reunites With Dog After Neighbor Gave Pet Away

Megan Safran and River were reunited on Thanksgiving Day.

Last Saturday (Nov. 23), Megan Safran's black labrador-poodle mix, River, went missing from their Loganville home. A neighbor found her and, not knowing who the owner was or what to do with her since the pound was closed, went to the local PetSmart and gave River away to a woman looking for a pet.

Thanks to help from the community and social media, Safran was reunited with River on Thanksgiving. The following message from Safran was posted to Patch's Boards section. (Editor's note: The message has been slightly edited.)

Today I am thankful for my community. This past week has been so hard without River. But thanks to my wonderful Facebook family, and my community, I have quite the story to tell.

When River was taken from PetSmart on Saturday by a wonderful woman named Paige, she had quite the adventure. Paige was on her way to a surprise party with her two kids and they brought River along. While at the party Paige told the story of how she came to have River to a woman named Becky. Becky works in pet rescue and took a couple of pictures of River just in case.

Monday night Becky saw the lost dog ad that the wonderful, amazing, lovely, Emily Yoskowitz-Goldstein posted on the Loganville-Grayson Patch. So Becky sent me the pictures of River asking if it was my dog. I was elated to be able to say yes. Becky told me that her friend Paige had my baby and to hold tight because she would be home to me soon.

Becky proceeded to text Paige and let her know that I was looking for River. Paige, however, was out of town on business and her two boys, Kyle and Brandon, were at their grandparents' home in South Carolina taking care of my sweet River. They kept her safe and the three of them had quite an adventure. This morning they got back in to town and I was able to go and get my sweet baby from them.

So, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, to anyone and everyone who helped bring my puppy home to me. Happy Thanksgiving from me and River!
