Local Woman Named American Legion Ladies Auxiliary District President.

After 3 years as local President of Auxiliary Post 233, Anitia Owens has moved on to the District level.

Loganville American Legion Post 233 Auxiliary president Anitia Owens was recently named the 10th district's Auxiliary President after leading our local post to an outstanding 3 years of service. Owen's tenure as president of Loganville's Post 233 had to come to an end per the auxiliary by-laws. Now what to do with this bundle of energy, commitment, loyalty and patriotism? On to the next step - District President!

"I was totally surprised. Some people had asked me to think about it, which made me feel honored, but to actually nominate me and then elect me was a real surprise and the highest honor they could have given me," Owens said when asked is she was surprised by the nomination and win.

This past year, Owens also received the Outstanding Unit President Award at the National Convention in Milwaukee which she credits the unit members work in Children and Youth, Education, and Veteran's Affairs and Rehabilitation programs to make her award possible. Owens will now preside over 12 posts in the area and hopes to bring harmony among them so they can all work as a team.

"You can accomplish so much more when everyone is working towards the same goal" she said.

Owens said she also would like to see more of the units attend the district meetings and prepare reports to let other know of the accomplishments within their units. She is more than happy to help the other units with the paperwork, the reports and anything else needed for them to showcase their work.

A nine-year resident of Loganville, Owens can be seen around the town in various activities promoting the Legion and its mission to serve God and country. She feels very strongly about veterans, both active and inactive.

"All of the units are supporting our men and women overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan by sending care packages through Soldier's Connection, hosting dinners for the families left here, helping with Thanksgiving and Christmas for the children of military members overseas, and many other activities" Owens said.

She also pointed out that although veterans  are the Auxiliary's number one priority, she gives kudos to the organization's ladies with their ongoing work in the community by offering scholarships to our children, helping with school supplies, teaching children about Americanism, volunteering and helping with the elderly and handicapped citizens, and many other projects that are completed each year.
