If you don’t like spiders and snakes, you might not have what it takes to love Georgia if you’re a homebuyer.

At least that’s the contention of the real estate website Estately Blog, which warns house hunters looking for places to lay down roots that Georgia is the second scariest place to live in America when a list of 15 common fears is taken into account.

In its recently published report, “The United States of Fear,” the real estate search website took a look at common fears that people have and ranked the 50 states accordingly.

“Here at the real estate search site Estately we know there are hundreds of worries when choosing where to buy a home, so to help house hunters make a more informed decision we’ve mapped out where Americans’ darkest fears are most readily found,” the article explains.

Delving into such fears as clowns, bears, tornadoes, murderers, shark attacks, meth labs and poisonous critters, the authors did their homework to crunch some numbers before tallying results.

The criteria used to arrive at the numbers came from such sources as Venombyte, the F.A.A and N.O.A.A.

Georgia ranked in the top five in the fear of Flying (total airline passenger boardings), Spiders (number of venomous arachnids) and Snakes (number of venomous snakes).

“If Samuel L. Jackson ever stars in Snakes & Spiders on a Plane, it definitely will be set in Georgia,” the site’s authors wrote in the report.

Venombyte says Georgia is home to four poisonous spiders species (brown recluse, brown widow and the northern and southern black widow), and 10 species of venomous snakes (coral, four types of rattlesnakes, three types of cottonmouths and two types of copperheads).

Florida was listed as the scariest state; Texas, Louisiana and Alabama were ranked third through fifth.
