Five Things To Do This Weekend

If having fun to help others is something that appeals to you, this should be a great weekend. There are several events planned in the Loganville and Grayson area that promise to do just that.

Five fun and beneficial activities planned for this weekend.

  1. From 6:30 to 10:00pm Friday, and other area churches are hosting the fifth Annual Joy Prom for those in the community who don’t always get the opportunity to attend a traditional prom. This year’s theme is Party at the Dude Ranch and people who care have made this special night possible for people ages 16 and older with developmental or physical impairments.   2. If you’re a yard sale junkie, the bus drivers from Zone 06-D in Grayson have just the event for you. From 8:00am to 1:00pm Saturday they are having a yard sale at the on Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville. This event too is for a special cause – to raise funds for the Gwinnett Relay for Life. The drivers have already raised more than $7,000 from other events and are doing so in memory of fellow driver Gene Beaver’s daughter, Beth Still, who lost her battle with melanoma a year ago.
  3. It’s a big day in Grayson with the city’s biggest annual spring fair, . The event kicks off with a road race to benefit the Grayson Cluster Schools Foundation and is followed by a parade at 10:00am with the Grand Marshals being the principals of the schools within the Grayson Cluster. The fair will follow from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the in Grayson.
  4. From 12:00pm – 6:00pm Saturday, the is hosting a benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Man of the Year candidate Eric Eason and Leukemia survivor Chandler Harkleroad will be in attendance for this family fun day, which will consist of raffle items, a children’s bounce house and food from the . A portion of the purchases will benefit the LLS.
  5. Last, and certainly not least, a bike ride will take place Sunday in to benefit Tim Smith, U.S. Army Airborne Ranger, former Communications officer and current communications officer. Smith is a paraplegic and suffering from multiple illnesses following a wreck several years ago. The bike ride will begin at 7:30am with a breakfast at The Diner, 730 Indian Trail in Lilburn. The cost is $15 per motorcycle and $5 per passenger. The ride, with a police escort, starts at 9:30am and ends at noon at the in Loganville. A cookout will follow at $5 a plate. All proceeds will be donated to the Tim Smith Trust Fund.
